Operated Heavy Duty Bimetal Relay – 3UC5830-5C
The Siemens 3UC5830-5C is a CT-operated
heavy-duty bimetal overload relay designed for reliable protection of large
motors and heavy starting applications. It belongs to the Siemens 3UC5
series, which is specifically engineered for industrial environments where
motors experience high starting current, long acceleration time, and
continuous heavy load operation.
This relay works on a CT-based bimetal thermal
principle, where motor current is stepped down through current transformers
and fed into the relay heating system. In case of overload, phase failure,
or current imbalance, the bimetal elements deflect and activate the trip
mechanism to disconnect the motor, preventing thermal damage and winding
failure.
The 3UC5830-5C is typically used for medium-to-heavy
current motor ranges (approx. 16–25 A class depending on CT configuration)
and is suitable for demanding industrial applications requiring Class 10 /
heavy-duty protection characteristics.
