Operated Heavy Duty Bimetal Relay – 3UC5830-5G
The Siemens 3UC5830-5G is a CT-operated
heavy-duty bimetal overload relay designed for reliable protection of industrial
motors under heavy starting and long acceleration conditions. It belongs to
the Siemens 3UC5 series, which is specifically engineered for
applications where motors experience high inrush current, long starting
time, and continuous heavy load duty.
This relay operates on a current transformer (CT)
based bimetal thermal principle, where motor current is sensed through CTs
and converted into proportional heating of the bimetal elements. In case of overload,
phase failure, or current imbalance, the bimetal strips bend and activate
the tripping mechanism, disconnecting the motor to prevent overheating and
winding damage.
The 3UC5830-5G is generally used in medium-to-heavy
current motor applications (around 40–63 A class depending on CT configuration)
and is suitable for demanding industrial environments such as conveyors,
compressors, pumps, crushers, and continuous process machinery.
