heavy-duty bimetal overload relay designed for high-current industrial
motor protection in applications with heavy starting loads and long
acceleration times. It belongs to the Siemens 3UC6 series, which is
specifically engineered for extended range motor protection using current
transformer (CT) input, ensuring stable and accurate tripping even under
demanding operating conditions.
This relay works on the bimetal thermal principle
combined with CT-based current sensing, where motor current is scaled
through CTs and used to heat the bimetal strips. In case of overload, phase
failure, or current imbalance, the bimetal elements bend and activate the
trip mechanism, protecting the motor from overheating and insulation damage.
The 3UC6630-5C is typically used for higher
current industrial motor applications (around 160–250 A class range) and is
suitable for heavy-duty equipment such as compressors, large pumps, crushers,
